INTERVENTION & CASE MANAGEMENT PROVIDERS
The Behavioral Health Standards Organization (BHSO) established the Intervention and Case Management Standard (BHSO 4006) to set a definitive benchmark for non-clinical behavioral health professionals who guide individuals and families through the critical early stages of recovery. Interventionists and case managers often represent the first organized response to crisis — their role demands not just experience, but ethics, structure, and skillful navigation of complex emotional, medical, and legal systems.

Under BHSO 4006, Commissioned Intervention Providers must demonstrate training in evidence-based intervention models, crisis management, family systems theory, ethics, and the practical mechanics of placement, treatment planning, and recovery navigation. Every interventionist must complete an approved education track, submit to a full ethics review, maintain professional liability insurance, and demonstrate documented field experience in behavioral health crises.

Case management providers operating under BHSO standards must show competency in long-term client monitoring, care coordination, advocacy, relapse prevention planning, and ethical financial practices. The relationship between client, family, providers, and payer must remain transparent, accountable, and focused solely on client well-being.

Programs or individuals that meet BHSO 4006 standards demonstrate a commitment to more than outcomes — they demonstrate a commitment to ethical stewardship during the most vulnerable moments of an individual’s recovery journey. Interventionists and case managers who fulfill or exceed these expectations are eligible for Commissioned status, affirming their leadership in crisis response, family engagement, and long-term recovery navigation.
